McDonald's McSpicy SAMBA Fiesta: Celebrate World Cup 2014!

Advertorial
Friday the 13th (as in June 13th 2014) is no longer that terrifying hollow date in connection with Freddy and Jason, take it all out because today marks the start of two interesting things: THE WORLD CUP 2014 and the "official" launch of McDonald's McSpicy SAMBA Fiesta! When the world cup is official, then the McD's new promotion is even more official LOL!

I don't normally blog about McD but when I do, something must be very good! Bet the picture above tells you everything already!

One thing for sure I have been HUGE fans of McD as I believe everyone in the whole universe does, their crispy chickens, fries and range of decent burgers (esp. BIG MAC and Fillet o' Fish) are always major crave, in which I am such a sucker for! To celebrate the World Cup 2014, McDonald's releasing this new set that will be available until July 13th 2014 (be hurry!).

McSpicy SAMBA Fiesta
Since this year's World Cup is being held in the land of Brazil, McDonald is very inspired by the exotic flavors of Brazil and Latin American, and it reflects on the sets! The sets consist of two variants you could choose from and they start at 48k nett! Not to mention, they already included the McD's Fizz and Shake Fries! NOMNOM!

McSpicy Peri-Peri Deluxe with Guava Fizz and Brazilian Salsa Shake Fries!
Lucky for me, I got just a pretty burger, I didn't have to do any styling! I am responsible enough to take pictures of my food before I actually eat it, quick somebody gives me an award!

I am pleaded guilty for typing this in the middle of the night and getting hungry I am calling my lawyer!!! Normally I am not a huge fan of cheese but I swear when I have this I ate the whole cheese layer because I presumed the chicken would be very tasty and the fresh veges would balance everything and boy I was true! This was really good, gotta warn you this was quite spicy, but it's addicting spicy! The chicken was so tender and juicy one bite was just not enough.

I don't know *shakes head*, the fizz was truly a fix for the searing hot day man! Loving the Guava fizz (left) as it gives flavor play to the palate! Talk about creativity and FRESH!

Fresh lettuce and tomato slices!

McSpicy Chicken with Raspberry Fizz and Roasted Beef Shake Fries
If you love McSpicy like I do and especially if you love a little kick of spicy then this would be just perfect for you! Again, tender and juicy chicken in between two soft buns and make sure you have the raspberry fizz all the way through the end and you might go "shit, one is not enough!" :9.

STARVING NOW!

NOW, THE FRIES!
I love fries just the way it is and I couldn't thank enough whoever the genius behind French Fries because that shit is revolutionary, not hyperbolic here! Picture this, hanging out with your friends with one ginormous plate of french fries and don't tell me you're not getting at least one and start to secretly take more and more, that's natural, just like blinking. McD's shake fries is SOOO GOOD especially the roasted beef flavor, it gave a pleasant flavor play from the sweetness and the savory it was just so addicting! If you want bolder flavor, just add IDR 1,5k for every sachet.

SHAKE SHAKE!

...after seasoning.

Major guilty pleasure. NOM NOM!
I think this is a promotion you shouldn't miss! My pictures and words don't do so much justice, but still my pictures do the selling *defensive*, now head yourself to the nearest McD in your area and start enjoying your World Cup treats! Psst, the best moment having this is with your friends while actually watching the match together at McDs!!! and ssst... they also have interactive media like their super cool Augmented Reality where you can actually play a game just by downloading their software and scan the fries box!
NOW I BELIEVE THAT HAPPINESS IS SIMPLE, NEAR AND AFFORDABLE!

Akira Back Jakarta: THE BEST RESTAURANT IN JAKARTA!

The buzz of this particular new restaurant has been over-hyping and that means no way I'm spending more time keeping these photos in my hard drive and not writing about it. Before I start, I'd like to dedicate this post to Gabrielle, thank you for a lovely lunch invitation :).

Akira Back is probably one of the newest restaurants in the scene but surely NOT the name you want to do one-eyed judge at, this restaurant is brought to Jakarta thanks to the boss behind MD, Manoj Punjabi (no wonder why this restaurant's located in MD Place Building) together with his business partners, Reino Barack (MNC Group and founder of Bima Satria Garuda - Indonesian Kamen Ride) and Rudi Widjaja. I heard it took three years for them to convince Chef Akira Back to finally open one established restaurant in Jakarta, at the moment, Chef Akira Back also has one posh restaurant named Yellow Tail which is located in the sin city, Vegas (Bellagio Resort and Casino to be exact) with clients including A-list celebrities or people with some cash to splurge, because truth be told, eating at Chef Akira Back's restaurants would cost you some fortune ;).

That famous logo! This actually looks like a serious restaurant's logo to me.
Akira Back is located at the 12th floor of MD Place Building which then made it a rooftop/sky dining with views to Jakarta sub-urban landscape (not crazy flattering tho). The venue itself was quite spacious with capacity for around 250 people, the dining areas were divided into main dining areas, VIP areas and bar seating areas, the VIP itself has three different kinds and each has its own minimum charge condition.
celfie :).

Each table's decorated neatly and simply with fresh flowers inside the white vase.
Unfortunately Chef Akira was not there by the time I visited the restaurant, he's currently abroad but will come back for the grand opening of this restaurant, yes, it's been two months but currently still on the soft-opening days!

The prime and the most expensive VIP room with minimum charge around IDR 20mil and the photo you're seeing below was actually two rooms in one, it happened that they were planning a little birthday surprise for their boss, Reino. I personally don't know you but cheers to the freaking birthday, Reino! ;).
Second most expensive VIP room was located at the more hidden part of this restaurant, if I'm not mistaken, the minimum charge's around IDR 15 mil. This was more proper for group lunch meeting and me personally loving this room the most and the window view from this room was better comparing to the other parts.

Good thing about the MD building, if you look at the iron panels on the window (which btw formed this spider nest pattern to the building), they could light up during the night, bet it's beautiful!
Private corner for two maybe? ;).
The dining plate here were all specially custom made with Akira Back logo embossed. Coolness.

Not going to stop with the flowers!
MOCK N' TEASE BEVERAGES!
Grapes and Lemonade Fizz
IDR 45k++
I was fond of this particular beverage for quite a few reasons: the grapes were fresh and generously given, overall it had a lovely and proper sourness consistency, well balanced from the sourness of the lemonade and the natural sweetness of the grape juice, and I love a little sense of perfume at every sip of this beverage.

Almost Famous
IDR 50k++
This beverage was more creamier in texture and flavor, the ingredients consist of homemade dragon-fruit jam, lychee, mixed mint and cream. The sweetness of this beverage was perfectly balanced also the consistency of the creaminess: properly medium without overpowering the whole beverage, mos timportantly, you could still hint the fruit flavor :).

Tuna Pizza (Cold Shared)
IDR 195k++
When this was served on the table, the strong aroma from the truffle just spontaneously turning on my taste bud and I managed to take a quick shot on this one because I couldn't stand not taking a bite, seriously a teaser. The pizza dough was crispy and compacted, topped with light Ponzu mayo and one layer of thin-sliced tuna after. Flavor wise? So light but sooo perfect! The tuna was seasoned perfectly (I noticed blackpepper and salt), and again, the truffle oil made everything better, the more, the merrier, the better! Simply couldn't go wrong with too much truffle oil! I could have this all for myself and wouldn't share with anybody else!

Akira Back (AB) Tacos
IDR 155k++ (5 pieces)
Size wise, not even larger than human's fist (yes if you count baby) but it was again, another top notch-kiss ass dish, the seasoning of the wagyu galbi was unbebloodylivably good, perfectly savory along with the spicy tomato ponzu sauce, the meat was so juicy and tender, just a kiss distance to the crispy tacos which then added up the play of texture. Okay the picture and the words couldn't do enough justice, go try it yourself you might cry!

Horenso Shira Ae
IDR 85k
This ain't sushi, in fact this was actually formed baby spinach salad with rayu (chili oil) and sesame sauce, another stunning dish I must say! First of all, pretty presentation! The baby spinach was cooked on the right temperature resulting a smooth, in a sense, naturally sweet, but it's the sesame sauce that gave the most kick! I love how the sauce was so smooth and flavor wise, just like the common sesame sauce...TIMES 100! It was so perfect with just the right amount of tanginess, sweetness, savory, a little hint of nut flavor and... I don't even know how to explain it anymore just so FREAKING GOOD!

Black Cod Miso
IDR 195++
Again, simple but pretty presentation! The cod seriously is the best cooked cod I've tried in my life yet, it was seasoned so beautifully, perfectly sweet (from the miso glazed), caramelly and savory at the same time! It literally melt in your mouth and spread to this burst of flavor. The beet root foam didn't do anything different to the flavor but it sure did a little impact on the presentation.
This you don't want to share, portion wise, not the biggest but taste wise? GOLDEN!

48 Hours Slow Cooked Wagyu Short Ribs
IDR 450k
STUNNING is not even the proper word to describe my love for this particular dish! The presentation was beautiful, the taste, even MORE! No need to bite, you just have to put one whole chunk in your mouth! It was so smooth, juicy and ultra tender it melt in your mouth exploding to this amazing bursts of flavor: savory and natural flavor of the premium wagyu and slowly faded to this overjoyed but sadness because you realize it's now gone! The quail egg didn't do any significant play of flavor but it was cooked nicely.

Trust me, the more I am lost for words to describe how good a food is, it means it's THAT good! How can you not trust eatandtreats' review?

and trust me, I want to hug whoever made this, WHY YOU SO GENIUS?! I am horribly mad and happy.

Among all, I couldn't decide which one was my favorite, but I sure will go back for both Tuna Pizza and AB Tacos as they're the more affordable ones. Told ya eating here might not be cheap but once you tried this, you might want to come back for more, again and again, and if it happened to me paying, I would! I feel like I got what I paid for! Akira Back totally fetch up my standard of fine-dining in Jakarta, well that's the case when you started or at least with tried the best, it's easier to upgrade rather than downgrade right? ;).

E&O managed to stay on my list as the best restaurant I've tried so far in Jakarta, but now, sorry E&O, it's a little hard but you might have to retire from the throne and pass it to Akira Back as it's now, personally for me, THE BEST RESTAURANT IN JAKARTA! I gave this 9/10! Venue wise, service wise and most importantly, food wise: blew me away!

THANKS AGAIN AKIRA BACK FOR SUCH A SCRUMPTIOUS LUNCH WHICH NOW REMAINS UNFORGETTABLE! Will sure come back for more!!!

AW Kitchen by Akira Watanabe Jakarta

I have told you guys so many times how I am so amazed and overwhelmed by the number of new dining places opening in Jakarta, but truth be told, not a lot of them are actually 'great' or even close to 'good', the urge of needing a good place to dine is incredibly imperative and in a sense... stressful *sigh*, but I am beyond glad that there is this new restaurant opening in Plaza Senayan called AW Kitchen by Akira Watanabe. I have personally been waiting for this place to open and just couple of days ago, I had my dinner here, and to know the full story and how I feel about the food and beyond, just keep scrolling baby ;).

Located at what used to be Avorio, this Tokyo origin restaurant is serving the customers what I didn't expect on the first place! I thought it's going to be a Japanese restaurant but turned out, it was actually a Japanese-Italian restaurant serving mainly Italian food with Japanese twist, maybe I was too blown away by the name "Akira Watanabe" which indeed a Japanese name. The venue was medium-spaced and I love the simplicity and the warmness that this restaurant offered, it rang 'urban casual' to me, good lah don't need to feel so intimidated by a restaurant, everyone likes feeling welcome!

Before I start I was SUPER BLOWN AWAY by the humbleness of the service. I need to take this moment to thank the manager, server, the waiter/waitresses, they're really professional in what they're doing, they were really attentive, fast and know what they're doing and seemed like they know where they're working. I am very sensitive when it comes to service and I was so glad that the service in AW was beyond polite and impressive.

Was seated in the VIP room, the room was just clean, not exactly wide but still comfortable.
AW glasses spotted!

I didn't exactly know the name of this refreshing beverage is but it was something with Fraiche, or not, anyway I super love this drink! Fresh apple juice with kiwi, lime and strawberry muddled together, it was sweet with a little hint of sour and perfectly balanced without each element overpowering one another. Must try!

Black Angus Beef Tataki with Soy Truffle Sauce
IDR 85k
This dish was just the perfect opening, rare black angus beef on top of vegetables (watercress, carrot, cucumber) salad drizzled with soy truffle sauce. The truffle was generously given which made everything smelled and tasted better, you just can't have too much truffle my dear. Great seasoning, fresh ingredients, amazing opening!

Tuna Salad with Japanese Radish Sauce
IDR 65k
The ingredients were pretty much the same like the previous dish, only this one they're using Arugula (rocket leaves) which was my favorite kind of green veges and again, amazing seasoning, the tuna was cooked to perfection : still leaving the center to be rare. I freaking love this one!

Fried Fish Ball with Shrimp and Scallop
IDR 85k
Another favorite of the night, the fish balls were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and flavorful on the inside, the seasoning was just glorious. I was glad of the fact that this wasn't oily even though this was technically a fried dish. Nice!

Spaghettini in Garlic Oil with Spicy Cod Roe and Japanese Mushroom
IDR 138k
This particular dish happens to be one of their best sellers and for an Algio Olio lover like me, this was just perfect! The pasta was cooked Al-Dente (still a little firm) but this one, perfectly Al-Dente, so far it's probably one of the best, if not the best pasta consistency I've had! The cod roe and Japanese mushrooms were given pleasantly generous, there were few kinds of mushroom in this portion (Shitake, Enoki, Shimeji). The seasoning of this pasta was just beautiful, garlic oil dressing with nori flakes garnish. Highly recommended. Period!

Spaghettini Pescatore
IDR 148k
Another personal favorites (to be honest almost all of the food here I love!), the pasta was again cooked Al-Dente, only this one they're using fresh homemade tomato sauce and the portion was HUGE, it's share-able for two or three people and I was happy that they put generous amount of seafood like tiger shrimps, green mussels, squids, clams and also LOADS of Arugula leaves! The seafood was fresh (significantly the tiger shrimps), the homemade tomato sauce was light, I like thicker consistency to be honest but this ain't bad tho.

Risotto in Ikasumi Sauce (Squid Ink Sauce)
IDR 88k
Normally I hated cheese but this one, even though still cheesy they managed to 'force' me to eat it, it was too beautiful to be ignored and yes it was again, champ! The risotto was cooked perfectly and seasoned amazingly! The squid ink sauce was creamy, milky, rich and overall...FRESH! I highly recommend this one for you.

Black Angus Sirloin Beef
IDR 198k
Don't judge food by its cover, the meat looked so juicy and tempting but by the time I started to take the knife to slice it, uh oh I know the meat wasn't as juicy as how it looked, the meat was kind of dry, a-medium rare would do because that was certainly medium... However, I must gave it to the sauce! There were three sauces to accompany the beef: Porcini Sauce, Ginger Sauce and Wasabi Pepper Sauce. The Wasabi Pepper sauce was just brilliant, I am not a fan of Wasabi but they deliciously clever it up to something pleasant for my palate :).

Pannacotta and Berry Sauce
IDR 58k
Delicious looking and pretty presentation but this dessert needed MORE work, and I mean from the consistency of the pannacotta, it felt like they're confused around "Pudding" and "Molded Porridge", it was just too hard for a pannacotta and it was lack of that silky texture, but as in for the sauce, I quite liked it!

Chocolate Profiterole
IDR 68k
The profiterole was everyone's favorite of the night, the texture and consistency of the profiteroles was perfectly lovely, not too hard but not too soft either. I honestly didn't really know why they call it Chocolate Profiterole because the chocolate was actually just the sauce dressing on top, the custard cream was really delicious along with light consistency not too overpowering milk flavor and I adore how they managed to put in chunks of fruits to add more vibrance and play of flavor. I wanted to see their take on chocolate cream custard, that should be fun!

Banana and Strawberry Tiramisu
IDR 68k
My favorite dessert of the night has got to be this one, the profiteroles was really nice but it's kind of "been there done that" but this one, the first time I've tried and actually fell in love at! The tiramisu was wrapped in soft sponge cake (at first I thought it was ice cream but it was actually light tiramisu cream with rich flavor), and gotta love the banana one: so creamy, flavorful and yum!!! MUST TRY!
Nice to have a sweet ending!

The dinner was spectacular, some food might need work here and there but they were mostly very good. I started my dinner feeling happy and I closed the dinner feeling even happier and sweetly, thanks to the Tiramisu, apparently in certain cases (like this one), the appearance order sometimes works!

Will there be another visit? Yes, more like other visit(s)! I love the food, the ambiance, the music they're playing and the kindness and the humbleness of the staffs, to cut things short, almost ALL about AW Kitchen. This restaurant's highly recommended and I would love to see you guys getting entertained while having such joyful meals here. If you've been here before but having this mixed feeling of what I wrote on my review, feel free to drop your comments below even the meanest! Everything's well appreciated!

THANK YOU AW KITCHEN JAKARTA FOR THE NICE DINNER!
