I AM SO THRILLED TO KNOW THAT MY FAVORITE BAKERY, UNION, IS NOW OPENING IN GRAND INDONESIA!!!

Union is still my most favorite (not one of, but THE MOST) bakery in Jakarta. I don't know how many times I've come here for their uber awesome Red Velvet cake or simply every single cake in the rack, they are just addicting.

I don't live near Plaza Senayan and knowing that I now only need to travel less km-s for those guilty pleasures is such a berry happy news. This particular outlet is called UNION DELI and located in the newly construced Central department store in East Mall Grand Indonesia.

Just like the one in PS, the front part of the outlet is the brasserie and patisserie where you can see and choose the delicious cakes and pastries you want to have at that moment!

They're still adapting the minimalist industrial design from the PS outlet, it's still simple rustic, homey and in a way quite elegant even though area wise, it's not as spacious as the one in PS. Like!

I had the dessert break with some cool friends but since I haven't had breakfast, I also ordered their UNION Burger with Foie Gras (IDR 140k), unlike the disappointing burger that I had in UNION PS (like twice disappointed), I must say that this particular burger managed to put a smile on my face :). The beef patty (medium) and the bacon were juicy and tender, the buns were soft and fragrant thanks to the butter and condiments such as cucumber, onion and tomatoes were given inside and the serving portion came with pretty decent french fries, the fries were crispy but gooey on the inside and seasoned beautifully, not to mention, the whole dish was such a good portion for one.

We ordered the chocolate and mint pie but unfortunately couldn't take any pic because my friend thought I've done taking the pics haha no worries as you can see it here!

The chocolate flavor was very rich and once it got into the mouth, the mint flavor quicky escalade and blended with the dark chocolate resulting this amazing flavor balance and incredibly fragrant. The texture of the ganache was smooth and melt in my mouth! I honestly like it very much!

For the cakes, we went with their signature Red Velvet cake, since it's just a few days to Christmas, the deco was a little different with the green cream and red cream creating the leaves form like those you see under the mistletoe. Flavor wise, no doubt about it, still very good (and consistently, always been), but I felt the cake was a little moist on this visit comparing to the ones I regularly ordered.

I fell in love with the Red Velvet Pie, it was super nice, frankly speaking, it's the signature red velvet cake in pie form, and since it's pie, you're going to have more cream than the cake itself, and I was so glad that the cream cheese wasn't overpowering my palate! This cake was such a goddamn feast for both eyes and tummy :). DAYUM!

I have nothing bad to say about my experience visiting this particular outlet, the food's great & the service was very attentive! I hope they could keep up with that! I wouldn't say that this outlet is 100% smoke free even though they mentioned that they have non-smoking area considering the venue wasn't spacious and smoke easily fly around, but luckily, even though the crowd was quite packed on my visit but not everyone's smoking. The pricing was pretty much the same as the one in Plaza Senayan, but again, not entirely pocket friendly.

Loewy Kuningan Jakarta

It might be a little late to review this place but I guess it's better late than never. Loewy is one of the hippest top notch restaurants in town. In the same giant which also runs the fabulous Union and E&O, Loewy is not only promising you a nice place to hang out, but for dine in as well! 

Loewy is located at the ground floor of Oakwood Premier Cozmo in Mega Kuningan, the venue's eye-catching and let me tell you straight that this post will contain more interior photos than the food pics! It's been almost two years since its release and this restaurant's still very packed! If you have space issue, this might not be for you (joking). Lately, that's what restaurants prepared me for! I recommend making a reservation before.

Loving the ambiance during the day, it's quite crowded but less crowded than the night (definitely, it's crazy during the night), awesome for lunch.

Fresh sunflowers for each table with Coca Cola bottle as the vase. Wicked.

Escargot

Lovely appetizer to start the whole lunch, this course features a quite strong hint of cheese and milk fragrance. Loving the crumbs all over this dish and the Escargots were cooked lovely.

Roasted Baby Chicken with Fries

My selection of main course, the chicken's skin was cooked lovely and crispy, the seasoning was great, but somehow the meat's slightly dry on certain parts, if it's juicy, this would be really good.

Warm Chocolate Tart served with Basilian Ice Cream
IDR 40k
Holy smooch, the ice cream was genius, never tried Basil ice cream before and this one, gotta admit, tasted really lovely. The chocolate tart's also decent but wasn't stand out and as impressive as the Basilian ice cream.

Rhubarb Strawberry Crumble
IDR 40k
Gotta admit, not the most adorable looking dishes, but this one's actually pretty unique in taste. If you love Rhubarb, or has tried Rhubarb creations (ex: Rhubarb Compote), then you'll probably like this one. It has the sourness, the sweetness, the texture. The strawberry ice cream's really lovely!

Had a great time at Loewy. Overall, if you want a different, slightly more impressive and fancier lunch experience with your loved ones, office buddies or maybe alone (so sad), Loewy would probably be a right choice for you. The food's nice, the ambiance's even better. definitely you'll need to prepare the budget because eating here will cost you at the very least IDR 100k (some menu even without drink). You kinda get what you paid for.

Union Jakarta Cronuts: Flaky Donuts!

Ever since the first Cronut experience back in Mandarin Oriental, I am still in search of Cronuts in Jakarta. The invasion of this hip food is driving me nuts!

Nowadays, a lot of restaurants in Jakarta has been releasing their versions of Cronuts and one of them is Union Jakarta. I bet this upscale restaurant needs no introduction, they're known for their fabulous cakes. Hands down! So I paid a visit a while ago to try their version of Cronut! And oh, their version of Cronuts are called "The Flaky Donuts".

Just like its Red Velvet, back in the early days of the release of Union's famous Red Velvet Cake, the queue was insane and sometimes it's even sold out for days! I bet the same thing's happening to this cronut. I have received tweets from my Twitter followers saying that Union's "Flaky Donuts" are mostly sold out in just hours and I received various information about the release hour, some said it's on 2 PM, others claiming it's around 3 or 4 PM, so I can't give you the exact information to that.

I bet I am one of the luckiest dudes in the world for always making it on the last minutes because by the time I visited Union, there were two flaky donuts left and I overheard a costumer saying to his friend that he wanted to take two, so I smarten up and ask the waiter to get it to me quicker! Suck on that I won!

So, as you can see above, that's Union's "Flaky Donut". I ordered the Cinnamon and Sugar and I gotta say that it does look a lot flakier than the one in Mandarin Oriental.

Union's Flaky Donut is slightly bigger and taller than MO's. It might look a lot simple and plain than MO's but they cooked this Flaky Donut smartly, because I love the fact that the each layers of the cronut is not sticky to one another, that's the science logic of it, well at least for me, I like it that way. It's crunchy on the shell and smooth on the inside, when I chew it, it feels like I'm actually eating like a regular donut.

Surprisingly, with the most simple ingredients such as sugar and cinnamon, for me, the flavor is sorta rich! You can feel that explosion of flavors in your mouth and you got the texture as well, both from the flaky donut and the sprinkles of sugar.

Union's Flaky Donut is available on three flavors, each retailed on IDR 42k (after tax), almost twice more expensive than MO's. By the time I visited, only this flavor left and there's two of it (just like the folklore I lulabbi-ed above). Surely going back to try the other flavors. Overall, this Flaky Donut is great, especially for the fact that this is really simple! However, I find MO's to be more interesting due to that unforgettable Vanilla cream *drool*.

Dessert Time at Union Jakarta (Union Jakarta Cakes)

Two days ago, I was super craving for desserts and I remember this place, exactly straight to this place. I bet this place doesn't need anymore introduction and publication since this place is super famous and well known for its holy cake (going there in a moment), but if you're new in Jakarta and you want a place that serves great and delish cakes, this might be your guide :).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, probably one of the best Interior I've ever seen among restaurants in Jakarta. The interior actually reminds me of BLD Puri Indah, it's very upclass New York-like urban and I love the fact that it's such in a more private and you're going to have a courtyard as your outside view, it just adds the atmosphere to be much more urbaned (remember urbaned is not a proper word, I'm just an expressive moron).

Union's Red Velvet Cake

This is the holy cake I talked about earlier.

It's not just a red velvet cake, it's Union's Red Velvet Cake. Hands down, for me this one is the best red velvet cake in Jakarta! What? Gonna throw me with rotten eggs? Please do, but before that, make sure you have this slice of Heaven. I bet one is not enough. For the price, I think this one is the most expensive red velvet I've ever had but it just worths the price! The portion is also big, you can also share this slice for two.

The cake is moist with a little touch of rhum, the caramel nut crumble is also delish and actually smells nice :). You know how I am not a very big fan of overpowering cheese flavor. The cream cheese is nice and definitely not overpowering (for my liking).

Pandan Cake

Surprisingly, I love this cake! I thought it's going to be an ordinary yet boring pandan cake but to be honest, this one is different! I love how the cake is so moist and smooth, and the pandan cream just melts in your mouth. The pandan taste is somehow not overpowering, everything is just positive for this cake. Gonna give it to this one for completely changing my first impression :).

By the way, the pink beverage behind is Strawberry Tea (IDR 25k - before tax)

Coffee Donut with Vanilla Ice Cream and Baileys

To be honest, I am already impressed by the simple presentation, but then I wonder the proper serving, so I just mix the whole thing and I think I did the right thing. First of all, let me just try all these one by one. Coffee donut is okay but not crazy fantastic, meanwhile the vanilla ice cream and the baileys are such a lover and match to one another. So here I go mixing them all which equals to GENIUS! When you mix them all (plus I add some nut crumbles from Union's Red Velvet cake) it's such a heavenly blast in your mouth.

As conclusion, I just feel like desserts really do make me happy, especially when I have a dessert with ice-cream, it just simply makes my heart smile even bigger. As in price, I think Union is somehow pricy but I just feel like it worths the price and the portion. And for the taste? Not to be missed. Somehow I feel like Union tortured me with their fabulous cakes. Anyway, this one is my third visit but my first time documenting and I personally am still satisfied by the desserts and also the venue, I always ask for the window side.
